UIUC Football Facility

The Need

A large regional contractor sought a reliable, reputable contractor to handle the sound attenuation and firestopping for the new state-of-the-art University of Illinois Henry Dale and Betty Smith Football Center. The 107,650 square foot, $79.2 million facility is the new home for the Fighting Illini football program. It includes expanded strength and conditioning space, coaches’ offices, meeting rooms, locker rooms, and other areas for recruiting and prospect hosting.

The Goley Solution

This was a multi-faceted job that involved exterior batt insulation, interior partition sound attenuation, head of wall work, and edge of slab fire safing.

To complete this job within the timeline and regulation constraints, Goley’s solution involved:

  • Responsiveness: For the estimating portion of this project, our team had to promptly respond to multiple change orders. We needed to customize our solution for the contractor within the confines of a very specific budget.
  • Communication: Given that this was a university facility, this project involved a complex reporting structure, as well as some communication obstacles. Our team needed to be responsive on the jobsite at all times. Plus, our dedicated administrative commercial team was timely and thorough every step of the way. They promptly completed the proper paperwork and protocols as necessary—including contractual agreements, schedule of values, certified payroll, and certificates of insurance. They diligently ensured all processes were completed in order to meet timelines
and keep this large-scale project on track.
  • Focus: Goley was one of several contractors on the jobsite. Thus, the work necessitated a focused team who could do their work in a dynamic setting alongside others. Our crews were expected to move quickly to accommodate the other trades and to keep the work going. This is where Goley’s comprehensive installer training came in; we ensure our installers are trained and experienced in working in fast-paced, demanding conditions.
  • Precision: Due to the facility’s scale, our team needed to use a 30-foot scissor lift to apply the products. Among the busy working conditions, our crews carefully and safely applied the products without incident.

“This job involved many time crunches over the course of a year, and Goley was always there when we needed them to be there. They are very dependable; they complete tasks on time, and they are always there to help work through any issues that inevitably come up. We appreciate having a good working relationship together.”
